Welcome! This blog is meant to inspire the saver and DIYer in you. I love to save a dollar, a dime, a nickel, a penny--it all adds up! I love thrift stores, I am definitely a believer that one man's trash is another woman's treasure ;)
I am a new "nester", I married my dream guy, Joe, 2 years ago. Shortly after we moved from San Diego, CA (where we met) to Kansas (where I'm from) to run our family's pumpkin patch for few months in the fall and now we live in Colorado.
We love it here, there are beautiful mountain views all around & it's sunny 90% of the time, which is nice coming from CA. But it is MUCH more affordable than CA and it is a happy medium for us, close to our home states of Wisconsin & Kansas but still in the "West" for Joe's skiing, fishing & hiking adventures.
For now we are renting and saving up to buy our own house someday soon. I hope to post many home improvements and design ideas here.
I love to design, travel, eat delicious food & of course find a deal! I have been very fortunate to travel to many parts of the world. Traveling is one of my passions and also fuels my passion for saving money. I have gotten some amazing free tickets and deals (I will elaborate more later) which has allowed me to travel to some of my dream places like India, Thailand & Brazil. I would much rather spend my hard earned money on traveling and experiences than clothing or material objects. That is why I love to find used items for a great deal when I do "need" that material possession!
I would love to learn more about photography & cooking. I still have my training wheels on in those areas. I have not invested in any fancy cooking or photography equipment yet. Maybe someday....then the quality of photos I post here will improve ;) The Food Network is my favorite channel (weird that it's not HGTV, a close second) so hopefully someday I will make some progress in the kitchen one of these days...
Someday we hope to add some little chicks to our nest! For now we are just trying to feather our temporary nest, travel and live life to the fullest while planning for the future by saving money and living on a budget.
My inspiration for design comes from my travels, I love an eclectic "worldly" look in my home. I love bright colors, many textures and collected objects. I like to mix and match and I love when objects in my surrounding have a story our strike up a memory for me.
My inspiration for saving money comes from my Grandma Mary. Since I was a little girl she has always taught me to save my pennies. She had some pretty awesome (and crazy ;) ideas for saving money including collecting those delicious sauce packets from Taco Bell for a rainy day. I haven't done that lately but Joe has caught me doing pretty ridiculous things in order to save a dime. In these cases he usually just says, "ok Grandma, that's enough" (he loves you Grandma!). Here is my beautiful Grandma on our wedding day. I hope you enjoy following me in my quest to save money and enjoy life!
